Before understanding the difference between Microwave and OTG, read the meaning and their uses.

What is an OTG Oven?

The full form of OTG is Oven, Toaster, and Griller. It is a small portable device that generally uses nickel/chromium coils that heat the compartment within and the fan helps in circulating the heat evenly – simulating a traditional oven that used to work on charcoal. As the heat is generated from the coil’s temperature, an OTG takes more time for the dish to be baked fully.

What is a Microwave Oven?

The microwave, on the other hand, is a device that is mostly used for heating food instantly. With the development of convection microwave ovens, it is possible to do many other things with the oven such as baking and roasting. Owing to the time efficiency, microwave ovens have become one of the most popular kitchen appliances. It has given wings to the cooking activities in the modern kitchen.

Difference Between OTG and Microwave Oven

Both microwave ovens and OTG are useful for heating or baking. Though similar, these two devices are not identical. Reading through the differences will help you make the right choice of kitchen appliances according to suitability.

Technology

The foremost difference between an OTG and a microwave oven is the underlying technology used for both devices. An OTG uses chromium coils which heats the compartment and with the help of a fan, the heat is circulated. Whereas, in a microwave oven, once the food is placed inside the oven, it absorbs the electromagnetic waves and generates heat. The electromagnetic waves range between 300 MHz and 300GHz. A microwave oven takes very little time to heat the food and unlike an OTG it doesn’t come with a preinstalled fan.

Size of the Device

The size of both devices varies. In comparison to a microwave oven, an OTG is small and portable and comes with a removable rack.

Capacity

Microwaves generally have a capacity of 32 liters whereas an OTG’s capacity goes up to 60 liters.

Spacing

The most prominent difference between an OTG vs microwave oven is the way both the devices are designed. An OTG contains racks. The racks allow the user to insert multiple trays one on top of others. This enables the consumer to bake several batches simultaneously. On the other hand, due to the turntable inside the microwave, only one plate can be inserted. Also, unlike a microwave, an OTG is more appropriate for accommodating rectangular dishes.

Appropriate Utensils

In an OTG you can use aluminum, silicon, and glass utensils for baking whereas, in a microwave oven, plastic, glass, and silicone utensils can be used. Ceramics and heat-resistant plastics can also be used in a microwave oven. However, you cannot use metal utensils in a microwave oven. Since microwaves use electromagnetic waves, using metal utensils can cause short circuits.

Which is Better OTG or Microwave?

Which is better OTG or microwave that depends on the choice of the user? If you love cooking and baking and time isn’t a constraint, then it is recommended to go for an OTG. On the other hand, if you are not a cooking enthusiast and looking for something that will save a lot of time and also cook the food instantly, you should go for a microwave oven. The choice also depends on the number of people and the varieties of food you need to prepare at the same time. If you have more people, it is recommended to go for an OTG. Whereas, for simple cooking and fewer people, the microwave is more appropriate.

Which is Better for Pizza OTG or Microwave?

For making pizza or making baking cakes, an OTG is more appropriate because, in the case of an OTG, a pizza stone is not required. Hot base pizza can be made simply with the tray. Hence in a comparison between microwave oven vs OTG, for making pizza, trust an OTG to do its job better than a microwave oven.

OTG VS Convection Oven Which is Better?

The Convection oven is undoubtedly the game-changer. In simple words, to experience the best of both worlds, get yourself a microwave with convection. Though your space is less in comparison to an OTG, the convection microwave has many modes that lets you heat and bake. In short, a convection microwave will let you access everything you’re eyeing for.
